A roots-pop artist with a voice that has been hailed as “raw and powerful,” Alex Mundy has been stirring souls with her songwriting for almost a decade. In 2019, she was selected as one of the winners of the YGK Emerging Musician Competition, which led to performances and recording sessions at the prestigious Isabel Bader Centre in Kingston, Ontario. Her single, “Oleander” was selected as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition out of Nashville, Tennessee, where she was judged by the likes of Coldplay, Dua Lipa, and Tom Waits. Suffice to say, Alex Mundy is a powerhouse writer with a story to tell.
In her own words: “When I have something to say, music is my megaphone. The writing process is my therapy. Everything makes more sense once I’ve written it into a song.”
Her lyrical honesty and unforgettable melodies have grabbed the attention of engineers/producers like Chris Brown (Bourbon Tabernacle, Sarah Harmer), and Aaron Holmberg (The Tragically Hip), with whom she has collaborated on multiple occasions. Her songs have been featured in the Kingston Canadian Film Festival and Kingston’s 2020 “O Canada” tourism campaign, and she is currently in the process of recording her debut album. With songs that exude a powerful nostalgic quality and are deeply rooted in emotion, it’s hard for her contemporaries not to be hooked on what she has to offer. Poised to be Canada’s next big songstress, Alex Mundy is ready to share her stories on a bigger stage.
